Hi, this is my latest blog on public relations - it's not too long so please let me know what you think by leaving comments and I'll get back to you. Tis the season to be jolly and we will all be thinking about our relationships, how to keep them happy and how to make sure they last. In the world of PR and marketing one tool is really shifting to centre stage in the UK after being a mjaor player in the USA for so long - Linkedin So here's five festive tips for you on how to make the most of Linkedin in 2012. 1) Make it personal. Linkedin is all about relationships and making contact so as to build profitable relationships. So why do so many people use the basic templates when requesting a connection; would you do that in person at a networking event? Make your introduction personal, add a small note to make the other person think you really are interested in them 2) Add value. Don't look for direct sales opportunity on every corner. Provide valuable information that helps others out and you will become a "go to person" rather than a suspected member of the spam sales team. 3) Join groups. These are great platforms for making connections with potential collaborators. Don't try to be clever and use them simply for pitching your services - people will see right through it. 4) Provide opinion. If someone has posted a question asking for opinions then give them that instead of a sales pitch. I know we all need to make sales and times are tough but if you want to be seen as an expert in your field then provide evidence of that rather than trying to catch every small fish that passes by. Think bigger and wider and you will find people coming to you instead of you chasing them. 5) Provide testimonials. Not so you can get one back, but so you can strengthen good public relations. I was recently asked to give one for a service provider and as a direct result he won a very valuable new contract - he is now singing my praises to other people, in essence an unpaid member of my sales team. So, go build your relationships on Linkedin, make them strong and profitable through good public relations and you will prosper in 2012. Happy Christmas and a fabulous New Year to you all.
